Ali Mahtabifard, M.D.
Ali Mahtabifard, MD is a Los Angeles thoracic surgeon who is double board-certified in general and cardiothoracic surgery. He has extensive training and experience in the comprehensive management and surgical care of all types of thoracic outlet syndrome. Dr. Mahtabifard takes great pride in providing cutting-edge, minimally invasive treatment options for his thoracic outlet patients. Dr. Mahtabifard also performs minimally invasive surgery for lung cancer, emphysema, esophageal disorders, hyperhidrosis, and chest wall disorders.
He has used his renowned skill in thoracic surgery to educate other physicians and students of medicine, contributing to the best selling textbook on minimally invasive thoracic surgery, Atlas of Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery (VATS). The innovative medical text provides comprehensive information for surgeons and residents by presenting instructions for surgical techniques that bring better recovery and patient outcomes.
Dr. Mahtabifard’s research has also been published in a number of highly regarded, peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Journal of Immunotherapy, Clinical Cancer Research, Molecular Therapy, Human Gene Therapy, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery Clinics. He also frequently presents at thoracic surgery meetings, including the American Association for Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Ali Mahtabifard earned his bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and went on to earn his medical degree from New York Medical College. He completed a general surgery internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center of New York and his general surgery residency at the highly regarded Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard University. During his general surgery residency, Dr. Mahtabifard also completed a two-year research fellowship in thoracic oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Mahtabifard continued on to complete his first cardiothoracic fellowship at UC Davis, and a second fellowship in advanced and minimally invasive thoracic surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Dr. Mahtabifard is affiliated with a number of well-known hospitals and academic organizations. He is the former Clinical Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. At Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, he is a faculty member of the John Wayne Cancer Institute.
Clark B. Fuller, M.D.
Clark B. Fuller, MD is a Los Angeles thoracic surgeon board-certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Fuller is highly experienced in minimally invasive thoracic surgery with expertise in the surgical treatment of thoracic outlet syndrome. He is also highly experienced in the treatment of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), lung cancer screening and therapy, esophageal cancer and motility disorders, disease of the thymus, aerodigestive tract stenting, and chest wall tumors.
A key investigator with the major oncologic clinical trial groups CALBG and ASCOG, Dr. Fuller serves as a medical consultant for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Early Detection of Lung Cancer Project. He has authored numerous chapters and articles in thoracic surgery textbooks and is involved with several medical societies, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. In addition to his work at the Thoracic Outlet Surgery Center of Excellence, Dr. Fuller is on staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, serves as an adjunct faculty member at the John Wayne Cancer Institute, and directs the minimally invasive thoracic surgery center at St. John’s.
Dr. Fuller attended medical school at Creighton University in Omaha after receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming. He completed a general surgery residency at the University of Missouri, followed by a residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles County and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Dr. Fuller then completed two fellowships – one in Esophageal Surgery at the University of Southern California and a second fellowship in Thoracic Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas’s MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Currently, Dr. Fuller is an adjunct faculty member at the John Wayne Cancer Institute and the Director of Thoracic Surgery at Saint John’s Health Center. Along with Dr. Mahtabifard, Dr. Fuller is on staff at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and has written numerous textbook chapters, articles, and published studies about thoracic surgery.
